Venice Santa Lucia train station next to the Grand Canal
Santa Lucia station
Santa Lucia train station is the end station in Venice.
'Venezia Mestre' is the train station just before St Lucia, on the other side of the Liberty Bridge, on the mainland of Venice municipality.(8km)
public water bus (Vaporetto)
On the backside of the Santa Lucia station is a square bordering the Grand Canal.
Here you will find a few popular boat stops. The public transportation on the water is called 'Vaporetto'.
The small cabin on the water with the yellow band is the boat stop "Ferrovia" (ferrovia=railroad).
The ticket windows are in the larger cabin, also on the waterfront.
A single ticket is €5, a 24h ticket €12 and a 72h ticket is €25. (summer 2006)
This is for the use of the public water bus in Venice including the bus to Mestre.
private taxi boat
The white boats on the picture, before the boat station, are private taxi boats.
It cost around €100 from the Venice Marco Polo Airport to a hotel in the historic centre.(1-6 persons).
The public water bus can be very crowded. Especially the ones near the station, the Rialto Bridge and St. Mark Square.
If you are with a few persons and have a lot of luggage, a private taxi boat can be a good option.
