    Padua (Padova)


    Padua is an old and picturesque city in the region of Veneto in North-Italy. It has a population of 214.000 people. Veneto has 7 provinces: Belluno, Verona, Vicenza, Treviso, Padova, Rovigo and Venezia. The capital of Veneto is Venice. Padua is 40km from Venice.

    Main attraction in Padua is the Scrovegni Chapel (Cappella degli Scrovegni). It contains fresco's by Giotto, a famous Italian painter who lived from 1266 to 1337. The Scrovegni Chapel is open from 9.00 to 19.00 all year round. Full price ticket is €13.
    Others attractions are the Basilica of St Anthony, the University of Padua and the Botanical Garden (Orto Botanico).

    Padua train
    The cheapest train ticket from Venice Santa Lucia train station to Padua is the regional train. Ticket fare is €3.50; journey takes 49 minutes. Between Venice and Padua are also fast trains. Journey with these trains take 26 minutes: fare is €15 (second class) and €20 for firstclass.

    Padua bus
    ACTV operates a bus line (nr 53) between Padua and Venice. The journey takes 1 hour and 5 minutes and is on average one time every hour. First bus from Venice to Padua is 4.55/5.25 in the morning. Last bus back to Venice is 21.25 in the evening.

    Padua airport
    Venice's Marco Polo Airport is about 20km from Padua. Airport busses from company Sita operate between Marco Polo Airport and Padua. Bus tickets can be purchased in the arriving hall. Website is www.sitabus.it but it's in Italian language only.

    Padua hotels
    One of the most popular hotels is the 3-star Hotel M14 in the center of Padua. It's 10 minutes walking to the Padua Cathedral.
    Another good accommodation is 4-star Hotel Donatello situated in front of St. Anthony's Basilica and near the ancient Orto Botanico.
