Holland America Line (HAL cruises)

HAL is a large cruise company with a fleet of 15 ships. HAL started in 1873 and is part of the Carnival Corporation since 1989. HAL cruise ships in Venice sail from the Marittima harbor in the cruise port. Smaller HAL cruises depart from Riva Setta Martiri. HAL’s main cruise ship (in 2011) was the ‘MS Nieuw Amsterdam’. Other HAL cruise ships in Venice were the ‘Rotterdam’ and the ‘Prinsendam’.

Nieuw Amsterdam

The New Amsterdam is the main HAL cruise ship in Venice. It was build in Venice at Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard and launched at July, 2010. The Nieuw Amsterdam has many facilities such as an extended art collection, luxury jewelry boutique, atrium bar area, premium wine-tasting lounge and a cyber-coffee house powered by The New York Times.
